1996 - 2008
On Thursday 13th November Glenda had the awful news from
Jenna that Shiya had suffered a massive heart attack and was on medication from
the vet. Shiya was a beautiful dog in looks as well as nature and sadly the
first of our street collection dogs to pass to Rainbow Bridge. She would sit for
hours collecting with us, never complaining no matter how cold or damp it was. A
real ambassador for her breed and all rescue dogs. She was to have helped again
this coming Saturday at our Carmarthen collection. We shall all miss her so much
and never forget her and shall hold the Carmarthen collection now in her memory.
She was rescued at the age of eight by CARA and from there went to her wonderful
family who have loved, treasured and enjoyed her for the last four years. Sadly
she will not get the many Christmas presents that were bought for her. However
one shall always live on in her memory. A Teddy has been bought with a special
code, where on line a map of the stars can be seen. Her family will choose one
and name it. Needless to say, they will be calling the star Shiya and will keep
the teddy very close.
At 4.38 am on Friday morning Shiya suffered a further massive heart attack and
passed away in the comfort of her own home with her special family. Shiya, it
has been a privilege and an honour to have known you. Run free now at Rainbow
Bridge. You will always be remembered.

This week has seen our running total push up further by a
fantastic cheque from Sally and her family in Swansea. They have been collecting
their spare change and the result is a cheque for a fantastic £115. Thank you
all so much.
The sale of our cards has picked up a little this week which has also pushed the
total up. We still have plenty left though if you are looking for stocking
fillers, a gift for someone that has everything or just for your own use. They
really are good quality and we have had several e-mails from buyers to say how
pleased they are with the cards.
We also have a range of hand knitted coats by Jan on our shop page If you are
looking for a Christmas gift for your favourite dogs, then look no further, they
are practical as well as smart, with no postage to add on to the suggested
prices. Perfect to keep your dogs snug in the Winter months and I am sure they
will be the envy of all the other dogs in the neighbourhood. Plus of course you
will be helping to raise funds for all the dogs at Many Tears.
Our running total is fast approaching our £20,000 target for
the year and I am sure by the end of November we will have reached that target.
All we have to do now is watch and wait to see by how much we can go past that
target. Many thanks to all who have made this possible.
Sadly our greetings cards have not sold as well as we had hoped. If you are
looking for a stocking filler or something for someone who has everything do
please consider our cards. They are a really good quality and very useable. I am
sure that any dog lover would love to receive some. Please take a look at our
shop page
We have two Christmas fayres later this month in Crewe and Wrexham. If anyone
would like to attend details are on our events page We also have a new
collection at Sainsburys in Taunton in December and at the motorway services at
Taunton Deane at the end of this month and throughout 2009. If you would like to
offer help at any of these collections please check out our events page for more
details and then contact Jenni at
jennianne48@tiscali.co.uk Jenni has put in a huge amount of work since
joining us recently and I am sure would appreciate any offer of help.
Then for all you bear lovers. Chris of
www.leafylanebears.co.uk has offered us a handmade bear to auction or
raffle. We have chosen Jon and are very grateful for this offer. Do check out
the website and have a sneaky preview of Jon. All Chris's bears are handmade
collectable bears and not suitable for little ones. They are all lovely though
and any bear collector will love them.
Many thanks to the team who took over the stall at the John
Burns event in Pembrey Country Park. A special thank you to Caroline who took on
so much as Glenda was not able to get there. They raised a fantastic £198.82.
We have had another very acceptable £150 from Jean at the Gorseinon charity
shop. We also owe the kind people of Gorseinon a thank you for the cat and dog
food that they donate at the shop for Many Tears.
Our Caerphilly Street Collection raised £70.28 which I know Sarah was
disappointed with. Despite a plea on the website for volunteers to help her,
none came forward. Sarah put in such a lot of work in getting the permit etc.,
it was such a shame that no one came forward to help. She is willing to try
again next year so if you are in the Caerphilly area please get in touch with
Sarah at sarah@watkins3.wanadoo.co.uk if you are willing to help at future
collections. We should point out though that the £70 raised will keep a dog
safe, warm and fed at Many Tears for about 12 days so for that dog the money
that Sarah raised is priceless.
Lastly we would like to thank all the wonderful people who donate by standing
order. These people have made a big difference to the amount we have raised this
year. We are now almost at the target that was set for 2008, so now we just have
to see how far above our target we can go!

Caroline, a very valued member of the Friends team, is seen above handing over our third £5000 cheque of the year. Many thanks to all who have made this possible.
Also pictured is Random, a 6 year old female foxhound. She is a lovely girl and would love to find a forever home. Please take a look at her posting on the Many Tears site if you are interested.
