The Friends are happy to welcome Jean, Joe and Brian to our group. The trio has acquired a shop at 58 High Street, Gorseinon, Swansea, which it is to call Animal Charities in Need. The first charity that they have decided to support is Many Tears. We are delighted that they have chosen us. The shop is now open so if you are in the area, please go along and support them and see if you can grab yourself a bargain. They will also be glad to accept any items that they can add to their stock, so please also drop those off at the shop.
Many thanks Jean, Joe and Brian and we look forward to a long and happy association.
£635
collected, a brilliant result. I'll let the amount and the pictures say it
all. Many thanks to all who took part in this collection whether they had
two or four legs. What a way to start our 2008 collections and it looks as
if they all had fun. Well done everyone and also many thanks to the very
generous people of Oxford. I think this shall have to become an annual
event! Anyone offering to arrange next year's collection?

Two sponsored events have helped our total rise. Firstly Alex and her Mum Melissa with their two rescue dogs, Sophie and Meg have walked around Cosmeston Coutry Park and raised us a fantastic £100. Well done and thanks girls as this was a huge walk lasting over 5 hours. The £100 is very much appreciated.
Claire had a fabulous day weather wise on Sunday the 10th to run the Valentines 10K Race in Chessington Surrey raising us a wonderful £210. Claire did the run in less time than she thought it would take and her fiancee and her rescue dog were at the finish line to greet her. Many thanks Claire for all your effort and the £210.
It doesn't end there though as Claire mentioned to her employers, Air Products of Walton on Thames, Surrey about the event and they are going to donate a cheque equal to 50% of what Claire raised, so we will shortly receive a cheque for £105. Many thanks to all concerned.
The cheque has now been received. Many thanks to Air Products for its generosity.
The Friends of Many Tears now have several different sponsor forms available so if you want to help us raise funds please get in touch and we will e-mail you a sponsor form.
The start of our fundraising for 2008 has been helped by an event that took place before Christmas. You will all have read about Anna's marvellous fundraiser. Annette her colleague and husband Pete decided to have a Soiree. This was more of a spur of the moment thing than Anna's, so they simply printed invitation cards inviting people to their soiree but requesting them not to bring a bottle but asking instead if they would put a donation in the box for Many Tears. Annette and Pete laid on drinks, food and mulled wine, they all had a great night and £215 was donated for Many Tears. There was literature in a folder about Many Tears so all guests could read and understand why they were helping Many Tears. As this donation got held up in the Christmas Mail it has been included in our fundraising for 2008. Many Thanks to Annette and Pete and all their guests, does it give anyone else any ideas?
We have also received £160 which I am holding in case Tamba needs more surgery when he is assessed at 18 months of age. £50 of this has come from Tamba's new owner, she also gave two large amounts when we did the Tamba appeal last September. She tells me Tamba has settled in very well and lives with playmate Pip. The other £110 has come from Irish Retriever Rescue from a fundraiser that they held for Tamba last year. If Tamba does not require further surgery this £160 will be used for another dog who needs surgery.
The rest of the money raised has come from a couple of donations and standing orders. Many thanks also for those.
We really do need more events in 2008 as we have a high target to beat. Please let Glenda know if you are thinking of doing anything. The Friends will always help with advice and items to sell if needed. We have car stickers, the Many Tears greetings cards (thank you Deborah, you are always a great support to us), pens which will arrive shortly, so please look out for them on the website and we are also looking into fridge magnets.
Lyn, in Mid Wales, has made us a variety of Sponsor Forms. As Many Tears has no sponsor forms and are sometimes asked for them, Yvonne who does the Many Tears website, has suggested that anyone who wants to do a sponsored event contact Glenda for a form and do the event through the Friends of Many Tears.
Here's hoping 2008 will be even more successful than 2007.
Facebook was labelled initially as a social networking site, but it has
become much more than that. One great aspect of Facebook is how it can be
used to raise global support & awareness for all sorts of causes – including
Animal Rescue Centres!
A new group has been set up for us by Lyn – Friends of Many Tears Animal Rescue – this group is open for anyone to join. In fact, the more the merrier. Take a look at the group, join up & start inviting others. The site enables you to add photos of your rescue dog, fundraising event, etc. As well as share fundraising ideas, organise events, and share your rescue stories with others all over the county who are working to help the rescue centre.
If you haven’t yet signed up to Facebook – Do it now! It only takes 10 minutes. Here’s the link to the new page that Lyn has set up.
Well what a way to end the year we raised a staggering £837. Many thanks to the people of Swansea for their kindness and generosity. Also a huge thank you to Liz and Alex with Titch and Louie for coming all the way from Merthyr, Sheri with Lily from Caerphilly, Caroline and Sam with Louie from Llandeilo, Frances with Bobby from Neath and Ruth and Heulwen with Mog and Nesta from the Swansea Valley. You all came miles but boy was it worth it. Also Lisa and Joel with Poppy who along with Glenda were the only ones from within Swansea. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and all the dogs looked very fetching in their Christmas gear. Lots of info between us all was given out about Many Tears so hopefully this will lead to several dogs being rehomed as well.
Many thanks to all the collectors, all the dogs who behaved beautifully and all the very generous people who donated their change. What a high on which to end the year. This means that in its first year the Friends of Many Tears has raised a fantastic £10,500.
Anna, one of the Friends of Many Tears from near Calne in Wiltshire informed Glenda a few months back that she was going to have a Christmas Sale in her house. The Friends sent her the remaining tea towels and car stickers that we had left and quite a lot of the Many Tears greetings cards. On top of that Anna made loads of chutney, her Mum made made lots of jam and onions from a friends allotment in Blackpool were pickled plus some other goodies were sold. Anna charged £3 for a glass of wine with food and sold Tia Maria coffees for £1.50. On the day she coped single handed with about 50 people who came to her house over a three hour period.
It was a sell out and Anna raised a staggering £511.23. Many thanks to Anna for all her hard work. Also thanks to her Mum for all the jam making. Thanks also has to go to all her family, friends and colleagues who either helped in any way or spent lots of cash on the day. What a wonderful success story. Anna enjoyed it so much though that she is planning on doing a Summer BBQ version.
Could you do something similar for the Friends? Thanks to Anna and other people who have had fundraisers this year, we are on our way to making £10,000 in our first year. We need more events in 2008. The Friends are always willing to help with advice and items to sell, if we have things available.
Santa took a few hours out of his busy schedule to stop by at Many Tears
to present a cheque for £3000, just over 400 pigs ears and a sack of other
treats on behalf of the Friends of Many Tears. Hopefully this will keep the
dogs happy over Christmas. Santas little helper in the photograph is Willow.
Willow came over from Ireland a few months back and has been returned from
two homes through no fault of her own. She is a delightful little (almost)
English Pointer. Hopefully it will be third time lucky for Willow.
This amount was only possible due to the £1300 received from people who have been saving 20p's and those who gave donations for the Christmas dogs, £450 from our Twinkle Twinkle Little Star fundraiser and the balance of £1250 has been made up from what we have collected during recent street collections. The money and the treats are really important especially at this time of year so please during 2008 can lots more of us save our 20p's. It is a way of saving a lot of money at only maybe 40 or 60p a week. It really does all add up over a year though so please get saving and Christmas 2008 could see us hand over even more money and more treats. Many thanks to everyone who has contributed towards this amazing amount. On behalf of all the dogs at Many Tears, who are so grateful for all their treats, Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
