We are pleased to say that over the last few months we have raised some much needed funds. The Henley on Thames street collection raised £192.16. We are very grateful to Loraine and all her helpers for a very useful amount.
Jean at the charity shop has given us a cheque for £200 again for which we are very grateful. The collection box at the shop was emptied so another very useful £51 is also being added to the running total. Sam who has some collection boxes in the Andover area has sent in £38.03 so we are very grateful to anyone in Andover or Gorseinon, Swansea who has contributed to those boxes.
The last of our funds has come from the Pembs Friends Group who have not long formed but are truly dedicated and now Glenda would not want to be without them. They have already done several street and store collections and there are more in the pipeline. In May, many thanks to Ellie for her carboot sale which raised £65. Helen's tabletop sale at Pembs college which raised £56.70 and an extra special thank you to some pupils of SVT (supported vocational training) and their tutor at Pembs College for the wonderful £70.51 they have raised by holding a raffle and bric a brac sale. Many thanks to each and every one of you and of course all your helpers
We have had money in from three events this week and this has given us a tremendous boost.
Mandy & Mark adopted a tiny Jack Russell called Mansi from
Many Tears back in September. They have renamed her Nonni. They think she is
just wonderful and she enjoys going on all their little outings. However there
was one outing that little Nonni could not go on but it was something that Mandy
and Mark wanted to do to give something back to Many Tears.
They set out from Cardiff heading for Cape Town, South Africa where they took
part in the Cape Argus 70 mile Road Race. They both thoroughly enjoyed the race
and Mandy cycled for 4 hours 29 minutes and finished in the top third of all the
women in her age group. A real achievement in itself. However, Mandy also
achieved something else. Way back at the start of the year she contacted Glenda
to see if the Friends had a cycling Sponsor Form, we didn't, but Lyn set about
designing one in green and gold (South African colours).
It was promptly sent to Mandy who set about getting some sponsors. An amazing
cheque for £463 has now been received with possibly a little more to follow. We
are so grateful to Mandy and Mark for this fantastic boost to funds and of
course also for giving little Nonni a wonderful home, thanks guys.
Well, this was a first time event and I think will have to become an annual event. An amazing £616.37 was raised. Many thanks to Debbie for the brainwave of collecting there and also to the Shopping Centre for allowing us. Of course Debbie was assisted by the lovely Pixie who was a Many Tears Christmas Dog way back in December 2006. Also Many thanks to Collette, Cheryl with Ozzie, Beth with Woody, Louise with Saskia, Martin and Daisy, Margaret Exley, Margaret Britton and her dog and Sarah and MIckey. A special thank you to Debbie for putting the whole day together and making it such a success. Also many thanks to all the shoppers for their generosity.
Rain was forecast but luck was on our side as we had a lovely
day weather wise. As always for the Swansea collections some of the collectors
came from far and wide so very many thanks to them. If there are any people in
the Swansea area who would like to help on future collection please get in touch
at Glendamfry@aol.com. A total of
£580.40 was raised and Glenda would like to thank Lynn and Lily, Heulwen with
Nesta, Frances with Bobby, Mike with Poppy, Lisa and Joel with Poppy, Jenna with
Bessie and Margaret for all their help. Not forgetting of course the good people
of Swansea who are always so generous to us.
As a bonus at both of the collections above lots of information was given out
about Many Tears. Many people were going home to check out the website so
hopefully it will also mean that some dogs will find their forever homes. Street
collections are so important for raising much needed funds but are also so good
for raising awareness of Many Tears.
Please read this article on the How you can Help page. Dorian has made us an offer that will help raise funds for the dogs and cats at Many Tears.
This started as a "Healthy Eating Plan" over a two week
period but turned into a serious three month diet for a few of the people taking
part. Dieting is not easy though so although 27 people applied for a sponsor
form, there was a mass drop out rate and in the end just 8 of us took part. I am
so grateful for those that stuck with it as we have raised a magnificent £1782
for Many Tears and along the way also shed 92 lbs.
A huge thank you to all who took part. Sarah Jane lost 20 lbs and collected a
massive £850. Sarah, who is fostering little Norris and Hailey, 10 lbs and
collected £525. Dave, Dad to two lovely Rotties, 20 lb raising £127. Debbie, who
lost 12 lb sent her cheque for £50 and it got lost so she paid again. Then the
original cheque showed up and thank you so much Debbie as she decided she was
happy to pay twice so her £50 turned into £100. Then Mike, Katie, Coral and
myself all lost and raised smaller amounts but every penny is so important and
it all added together to make this magnificent sum that has helped make our
running total look so much healthier. I am sure we all feel much healthier as
well for having shed some pounds. Excellent work folks and well done for
sticking with it. Also many thanks to all those wonderful people that sponsored
us.
Despite fostering little Norris and Hailey and having four dogs of their own Sarah and Malcolm managed to arrange a fantastic collection in Wrexham. They put in a lot of effort and managed to raise a wonderful £591.82. Many thanks to all their helpers on the day but a special thank you to Sally and her friends from Oswestry, also Carol, Karen and Leslie who spent the whole day collecting with them. In total it was a great 11 people and 12 dogs, what a brilliant effort all round for a very first collection. Even little Norris put in a guest appearance and was a great hit with passers by. Many thanks to Sarah and Malcolm and the people of Wrexham for their generosity.

Four recent collections have been very successful and helped us raise £1078. All were on bitterly cold days so a huge thank you to all who helped collect and of course as always to the dogs who helped, without them we would not raise anywhere near the amount we do.
Haverfordwest, organised by Helen raised a staggering £380. Bridgend, organised by Kirsten raised £285.30 and Pets at Home, Reading, a very useful £110. This collection was organised by Laylah and Claire. All four of the above are first time organisers so what a good job they all did, many thanks.
Llanelli was the latest of the collections and a massive thank you to the collectors and dogs as all came from far and wide to help. Jenna with Bessie and Shiya coming the futhest with a 120 mile round trip. Helen with Ellie and Bonnie with an 80 mile round trip. Lynn and Lily, 70 miles and Heulwen and Nesta, 60 miles. Myself and Katharine with Guiness just a 25 mile round trip. There must be more local people who could help at these collections though as Llanelli is the town nearest to Many Tears. It was worth the distance covered though as we collected £303 and the snow fortunately held off until the night. If you live near any of the collections and would like to help the dogs at Many Tears please get in touch with Glenda at glendamfry@aol.com as we always need more help especially at Swansea, Llanelli, Carmarthen and Bridgend. All street collections are listed on our How to Help Page. Street and Store collections form a large part of our income, if you can spare a few hours a couple of times a year please do get in touch.
Stop press...Also news just in of our collection at Pets at Home, Haverfordwest. This has raised £175 - excellent result. Many thanks to Helen with Bonnie and Ellie, Robert with Maisy and Lisa with Mutley who all turned up there for three days running also thanks to all the other Friends who came along to say hello. A special thank you to Jonathan Welsh of Pets at Home who made them all very welcome and put a lot into our visit. It is also great news that there is a chance of a permanent link between Pets at Home, Haverfordwest and Many Tears.
The Friends are extremely grateful to Kerry and the D S Big Band for the wonderful concert that they put on for us in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. Thank you all so much. The night was a great success and has raised a wonderful £540. Kevin, the foster coordinator went along to say a few words about Many Tears, thanks Kevin, so hopefully we may also gain some homes or foster homes for the dogs. It sounds as if it was a great night and the audience had a real treat. Kerry, we can't thank you enough. You are a star.
