August has been a good month with a flurry at the end. A big
thank you to Morrisons Haverfordwest for allowing us to collect and bag pack.
Also a huge thank you to the Friends team of Helen, Lisa, Sue, Lynn, Rob & Lyn (Maisie
& Tiki), Stephanie, Sioned, Kenzie and Branwen. They all worked so hard and
raised an amazing £450.
Then at the Loss Management Group in Bath Kerry has once again been busy for us.
As the photos below show, Alan Reynolds kindly agreed to have his locks shaved off down
to a grade 2 (sponsored of course!) and we think he looks even more handsome
now, many thanks Alan. Also a special thank you to Sam Park and Mrs Rackham who
spent hours baking goodies for all at the Loss Management Group. Kerry is now
busy collecting in the sponsor money which is roughly £313. We are very grateful
to all involved.

After the success of her last carboot sale which raised £251,
Janice decided to do another and a cheque for £180 is on the way from her.
Absolutely amazing, I think she should give us all notes on carboot sales.
Jean at the charity shop in Gorseinon has presented Glenda with a further cheque
of an amazing £500. Once again we are very grateful not only for the cheque but
also the towels and blankets that Jean saves for Many Tears and the dog and cat
food donations that the kind people of Gorseinon leave at the shop for Many
Tears. The towels, blankets and food are collected fortnightly by Glenda and
taken to Many Tears.
Raising funds is not always easy. Earlier this year Glenda was asked to help
raise £3000 for a Staffie Rescue in the North East of England. They urgently
need £3000 to build three kennels which are wanted to house some of the extra
Staffies that they are wanting to take in due to recent bad press. The words
deed and breed come to mind but in the meantime Staffies and Staffie Rescue
centres are struggling. Unfortunately Glenda had no spare time but did pass on
an idea to them which we are pleased to say has so far raised £2485. If you
would like to support Staffie rescue and have a spare fiver please take a look
at their website and consider buying a brick in their webwall for their kennels
that you can have your pets name printed on. A copy of this wall will be hung in
the kennels when eventually built which would be lovely if it is not too far
away now. Check out the website at
www.sbtrescue.co.uk

The Friends have done so well in 2008. We have handed over two cheques for £5000. Jacqui presented our first one in April then Debbie (above) presented pour second in July.

Thanks to Lily's Lotto, Danny and Lily (above) have just presented a £1500 cheque.

Lyn and Laura are pictured above at the Erwood Show in Mid Wales. They raised in the region of £80 and are thinking of making this an annual event. Both Laura and Lyn have held several events for us and are keen supporters.
Here's looking forward to a good autumn of fundraising for the Friends of Many Tears. If you are interested in holding an event for the Friends please do contact Glenda and we will give whatever help and advice we can.
We need to say a big thank you to Dorian for a lovely
donation of £161 from the sale of goods from his online shop. Worth keeping in
mind that Abbiegails now offers more ways to raise funds for MTAR. In addition
to their range of Shaving and Toiletry products, they have Costume & Bridal
Jewellery, Trainsets and Corgi Diecast and spares for Hornby Railway. Up to 10%
donated simply mention MT in the comments box when placing an order. Visit
www.abbiegails.co.uk
An easy way for you to help raise funds while you do your shopping.
Lyn and Laura in Mid Wales have just sent a cheque for £100. This is the takings
from the tabletop sale they did recently, a few donations and Lyn sold some of
our pens at work. A very useful amount indeed and the girls will be doing
another show this month as well plus Lyn will be running in the Swansea Bay 10k
for us.
We have had another £200 from Jean at the Amimals in Need charity shop in
Gorseinon, Swansea. Plus Jean is very good in donating items when we have an
event coming up. She has just donated, cuddly toys, kiddies books and videos for
a Christmas Fayre which will be in November in Wrexham.
Many thanks to Ruth who is always very generous. She has just had a premium bond
win so the £50 has winged it's way to the Friends for the dogs at Many Tears.
Many thanks also to Caroline and the class of 9CSD at Birchgrove Comprehensive
School in Swansea. They held an end of term "Bash the Rat" for us. I should say
that no rats were harmed during this fundraiser. Bash the Rat involves dropping
a ping pong ball down a drain pipe and the pupils have to hit it as it comes out
with a wooden mallet. They only win if they flatten the rat! It was great fun I
and is nearly impossible but very addictive. Well done and thanks to all from
the dogs at Many Tears.
Unfortunately Glenda had to take a break from May into June but July sees her back at the helm of the Friends of Many Tears. A boost was needed to the funds we have raised and many of the Friends have helped enormously in doing just that despite the awful weather conditions. A special thank you from Glenda to all who have rallied round at this difficult time.
Oxford - Debbie has been running a tuck shop where she works and has sent in a very useful £50.
North Somerset - Katie and her Mum had an evening street stall and raised a fantastic £76.90. Katie also emptied the collection box she has in a local pet shop and another £20.10 had been donated in that. Many thanks Katie your efforts are much appreciated. The photo below shows Katie's Mum trying to keep the stall dry!

Bristol - Danny has been walking to work in order to save up all his fares to donate to us for the dogs at Many Tears. £100 received so thanks for that Danny and for all your help since January 2007 when the Friends were founded, you are indeed a true Friend of Many Tears.
Birmingham - Lynn has sent us euros to the value of £33. Many thanks Lynn and if anyone has foreign currency they no longer want please look at our Appeals Page to see how you can help us raise more funds.
Login, West Wales - Lynn held a tea party for some lovely ladies aged from 73 to 100 plus. They all had a marvellous time and enjoyed hearing all about Many Tears. So much so that they had a "whip round" and donated £9 to the Friends. Thanks girls!
Carmarthen - Glenda and some of the Pembs group had a stall raising £135. Not a fortune but they all did their best under the circumstances. Thanks to Rob and Lyn for buying a gazebo and lending it for the day. Sadly within 2 minutes of erecting and securing it, it took off. They tried several times to secure it but the rain and wind conditions were just to much. Fortunately the group were able to move indoors so made the most of the day after a bad start.

We also need to mention Caroline here. She won third prize in Lily's Lotto and very generously donated it back to the Friends so another £25 to add to the pot. Many thanks for your generosity.
Wrexham - Sarah has sent in £30 from the collection box at Tetrapak. Many thanks to the staff at Tetrapak who are always so supportive of Many Tears.
Also
in Wrexham Alex and Sarah had a stall on the 5th raising £107.66 and on the 12th
Alex and her son Michael had a stall raising £35.65. A special thank you to
Michael for all his help on both days. The photos are of the Wrexham event on
the 5th. Sadly North Wales as well as South Wales had the most awful weather
that day and later in the day their Gazebo also ended up taking off so it was a
mad dash to get all the stock into boxes before it got soaked.

Crewe - Pictured below are Rebecca and Janice who held a carboot sale for us. Now these are always a bit of a hit and miss affair. Theirs however was definitely a hit. A staggering £251 was raised, absolutely incredible. You'll have to let us all know your secret girls! Well done. They also pulled out a few items which they have decided to sell on ebay so fingers crossed for another cheque if they all sell. What a dynamic duo.

Wiltshire - Again bad weather as the pictures prove. A BBQ was held at Anna's house. Anna was assisted by Annette and Pete. Lots of goodies were made for this event including jam, chutney, pickled onions, fudge and Pete made the most stunning bird boxes and ladybird houses. Despite the weather the BBQ went ahead and a staggering £850 was raised. Well done guys the dogs are very grateful. Below are a selection of pictures of the day and Anna's thanks to everyone concerned.

A Note from Anna - At 4pm the sky came over black as night, it rained Cats and Dogs with 50mph winds, but in true British style we carried on regardless, flung the door open and the fundraising commenced. An excellent turn out even though it was miserable weather. Everybody spent their hard earned cash buying all the goodies, enjoying the delicious food and downing the drink to forget the lousy weather. A huge heartfelt thank you from Anna, Annette and Pete to:
everybody who made an effort to attend
everybody who didn’t attend but bought a ticket
everybody who just gave a donation
everybody who bought something where we work
everybody who donated or made items
Your generosity shown was just amazing and we are truly
grateful to every single person
A small amount of items were left so on Monday we had a table top sale at work
to see if we could sell the last few items, this again helped to boost the
profits to our final total.

A huge thank you from Glenda at Friends HQ to everyone who has helped at any of the above and also for the very many emails of support that she has received. Lastly, just look at that running total! Compare it to last year!!! What more can I say?
